Vermeil Jewelry is a phenomenal option when looking for affordable gold options, but how is it different from gold plated jewelry?
In some ways vermeil is similar to gold plated jewelry. It is in fact 10K gold or higher plated over another metal. So how is it different? Vermeil is always gold plated over sterling silver. Gold plated jewelry is sometimes over brass, copper, or other cheap metals. (See our last post for more on why this is important when buying gold plated) Vermeil will always have a sterling silver base with high microns of 2.5 gold plated. It is also important to not the Karat of gold will always be at least 10k. The higher the Karat, the softer and more malleable the jewelry will be. 14k-18k is the ideal weight of gold for everyday wear.
